EDUCATION CENTREThe Waste Education Centre at Donarbon’s Waste Management Park in Waterbeach, is open to anybody from the Cambridgeshire community who is interested in finding out more about what happens to their waste. We welcome visits from schools and colleges, special interest groups, local businesses and the general public.
Activities for Key Stage 1 and 2. Kitchen to compost (and back again) Learn how we can make compost from our kitchen and garden waste. What can go into compost and what can't? How can we use the compost we make?
Time: 45 mins Plastic and Paper
Think about why we throw away so much plastic and how we can reduce this. Look at the alternatives to plastics. What happens in other countries? Learn some reuse and recycling skills from India.
Time: 45 mins RRRR Rubbish Find out what the 4 Rs are. Reduce your rubbish by designing a reusable bag. Reuse rubbish by making it into something else. Learn some basic repair skills and see how good you are at recycling your own rubbish.
Time: 1 hour Through our Learning Zone students can access quizzes, interactive exercises, fact sheets, images and illustrations. The resources are developed with clear Key Stage objectives in mind for Geography, Science and Sustainability and build learners' understanding of important environmental issues.
