March Waste Transfer Station
Donarbon’s new waste transfer station in Melbourne Avenue, March, was opened by County Councillor Geoffrey Harper, CBE, Leader of Fenland District Council and County Councillor John West, Mayor of March on 2nd November 2009, as part of the PFI contact between Donarbon and Cambridgeshire County Council.

March Waste Transfer Station takes waste and recycling from Fenland residents' bin collections. It is collected here before it is transported on to Waterbeach for processing.
This work was previously carried out at the Wisbech Waste Transfer Station. The new transfer station is close to Fenland District Council's Depot in March, helping to reducing travel time and emissions from council vehicles. (Pictures of the transfer station and opening ceremony)
- PFI contract Council Waste: Household waste from Fenland District Council is delivered by council collection vehicles to the purpose built transfer building. The waste is then loaded and transported by articulated lorry to the new MBT Plant at our Waterbeach site. In addition the Council delivers bulky waste, fly-tipped waste and street sweepings to the site. The District Council also delivers all kerbside collected brown bin waste, which will be transported by articulated lorry to the new IVC Unit at our Waterbeach site. The Council also delivers all blue bin mixed recyclable waste (which is outside the PFI contract) to the March site, for bulk transport by Donarbon to the materials recycling facility in Peterborough.
- Free soil improver: local residents can collect compost produced at Donarbon’s in-vessel composting unit free of charge from the March site, between 8am to 4 pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12 noon Saturdays. Please note, we will not be able to provide any assistance in loading soil improver for free, whether with tools, machinery or staff. You will need to bring your own spade or shovel and sacks or a small trailer. Remember when coming to the site to collect compost that it is a working site, and refuse trucks, skip lorries and other plant will be moving around the site all day, so please observe sensible safety precautions and only go the area of the site where the compost is made available.
- Asbestos Drop Off; so long as residents follow the correct procedure, householders can bring properly bagged cement bonded asbestos to the March site for deposit in the special collection skip.
